Motorola E895

Today Motorola launched the E895, a new GSM clamshell handset that makes use of the company's latest Linux based OS with a new and improved Java based user interface. The new OS is being called JUIX by Motorola. The new system includes Motorola's MOTOSYNC application that allows E895 users to sync email, calendar appointments, and contacts with Microsoft Exchange servers.

Apart from the OS and user interface, the E895 looks much like some other Motorola handsets, especially the V710 and E815 CDMA models. Like those two handsets, the E895 has a built in 1.3 megapixel camera and a TransFlash memory card slot, and is also capable of playing MP3 music files in its media player application.

But the E895's media player app is not limited to just MP3 files. It can also play video files that were recorded on the E895 itself, and is capable of playing streaming video files as they are being downloaded over air by way of a GPRS or EDGE data connection.

The E895's Bluetooth system supports a vast array of Bluetooth profiles, including the A2DP profile that allows for stereo music to be transmitted to an A2DP capable Bluetooth headset. Other interesting profiles include the Audio/Video Remote Control, Basic Printing, and Dial Up Networking profiles.

The E895 makes use of dual color displays, but so far the company has not provided details on either their resolution or color depth. We'll update this story when we learn those things, as well as expected battery live and physical dimensions.

Motorola expects the E895 to ship in the fourth quarter of this year.
