Vodafone has achieved speeds of 450 Mbps for the first time in Portugal, using the new functions offered by 4G+ (LTE-advanced) mobile internet technology.
This makes Vodafone the first operator in Portugal and one of the first in the world to achieve mobile network download speeds of 450 Mbps – a significant increase on the previous record of 300 Mbps.
This speed was achieved in a laboratory environment in partnership with Ericsson using some components of the real mobile network. The tests were done with pre-release handsets using bandwidth in three frequency bands assigned to Vodafone. LTE-Advanced technology uses the aggregation of two or more frequency bands to increase available speeds.
This technological innovation, which represents another giant step in the development of the possible speeds achievable with the mobile network, will in future allow a user download experience of 450 Mbps, with obvious benefits to Vodafone customers who use mobile internet services. At these speeds it is possible, for example, to open a web page in an instant (2 milliseconds), and download a 100MB file in less than 1.7 seconds and an HD movie (2GB) in about 36 seconds.
With this move Vodafone is reinforcing its leadership in the development of Internet services in Portugal and the performance of its next generation network
