Hi Doctor,

The device that you have is a wonderful all-in-one device or gateway.
You can plug your normal phone into one of the phone port and pass all your calls through the internet with the VoIP technology. You will not need your PC for that. You just have to fill in some settings in the telephony menu on the web interface.
As a router, you can still make calls through your PC. In this case, your PC need to be ON.

Although the SpeedTouch 716 offers two phone connectors to accommodate a telephone and a fax, for example, you need to register with a VoIP service to manage regular phone calls who will be conducted over the Internet (offering all the benefits of IP
telephony). IMHO you cannot manage regular landlines calls using your 716 but I can be wrong !

I read that the SpeedTouch 716/716g natively offer services like Caller ID, CLIR, call waiting, 3-way conference, and so on, but theses services run on VOIP channel and not on regular landline.

Once again, I may be wrong but i think it's not available as a default option

Too bad that it *may* not be possible to manage the regular phone line through the computer though. Ive been wanting to do that for a long time, Hehe. I hate using the phone, I can never understand what anyone is saying. Which is why I prefer to use my computer, as a phone. Hehe.

Then you just need to download one of the VoIP softphones (SJphone, X-lite, Xpress Talk...) subscribe to one of the thousands voIP providers, and there you are.
Because your PC can be connected to one of the 4 LAN ports on your ST 716, you will then be using your PC as a phone.

I'm actually using X-Lite (easy to use and very nice) x-lite download page
with this VoIP Operator http://www.nomado.eu/, it works fine.
